The One Mile recreation area is a favorite swimming area not far from downtown Chico. Actually one mile from Chico's down town central park. One Mile is about the beginning of Lower Bidwell Park.
The Five Mile recreation area is nice for swimming and picnics. And you guessed it, it's five miles from Chico's down town central park. Here's where Lower Bidwell Park ends and Upper Bidwell Park begins. Between One Mile and Five Mile there are some nice trails you can bike ride.
Upper Bidwell Park in the spring always attracts a lot of hikers not only from Chico but groups of people from all over the North State. This is also probably one of the nicest times of the year to ride as the weather isn't too hot and the park is lined with wild flowers and lots of greenery.

Here's a map of Upper Bidwell Park. Upper Park is a huge city park second only in size to New York's Central Park. It is an excellent place to mountain bike and has some of the hardest trails to ride. Excellent swimming holes line the entire length of the park too.
